All access is a plan that allows Bay Area News Group (BANG) newspaper subscribers to access a full portfolio of products BANG offers. With one subscription, readers can gain access
to news apps, e-Edition apps, blogs,
and unlimited access to BANG's
content — existing subscribers only
need to activate their plan.
Since the idea of full access was fairly new to our subscribers, the organization needed a way not only to introduce the plan but also to explain the benefits and the mechanics of it. One of the biggest problems facing this plan was the potential negative response from the readers — since free access to websites would be limited.
This projects ties to a larger year-long project where I was in charge of doing competitive analysis, research, and visual design.
Researched how the largest publishers in the country approached the concept of an all access service. Partnered with the circulation marketing research group to find out key demographic information about our subscribers.
I used Illustrator, InDesign and photoshop to create the wireframes and mockups.
One of the biggest hurdles was to figure a flow that would be simple enough for our subscribers. The size of the organization and the number of publications made the process more complicated. This site flow was the result of months of work and iterations.
These sketches represent the starting process of developing the story we wanted to tell our readers; to introduce the concept of an all-access subscription and the benefits of having access to every Bay Area News Group publication.
We used low-fi wireframes to show editorial and advertising stakeholders the distribution and balance of visuals and content, flow the pages and our solution to simplify the subscription and activation processes.
