The e-Edition website is an information site where Bay Area News Group subscribers can learn about e-Edition — Electronic version of our newspapers — and features.
e-Edition is included in the reader's
subscription and offers all BANG's newspapers on different platforms like iOS, Android, and Kindle.
As the Bay Area News Group was centralizing its services, the circulation department — Owner of the e-Edition products — had a structural problem. Before the centralization, each daily newspaper had a standalone e-Edition portal that also offered digital versions of the weeklies published under the daily mastheads. Having multiple points of access confused readers
and that translated into cancellations and increased call center expenses.
This was the center piece of a year-long project where I was in charge of doing competitive analysis, research, and visual design.
Researched how the largest publishers in the country presented and delivered their e-Edition products. Partnered with the circulation marketing research group to find out key demographic information about our subscribers.
I used Illustrator, InDesign and photoshop to create the wireframes and mockups.
This was by far the most complex part of this project, because of the size and complexity of the organization. After an initial inventory of existing websites, products and publications discovered a high percentage of redundant pages. The final version of the flow shows a more compact site and a better experience for our subscribers.
The initial sketches helped stakeholders understand the overall structure of each page and the hierarchical order of each panel.
Some samples of the wireframes we used at presentations and testing at stakeholder meetings.
